What is Carrot Fertility and How Can It Help With Postpartum Support?

Hey there, Charlotte NC parents!

We know many of you are curious about insurance options for doula services or how you might get reimbursed for postpartum care. While a lot of our families pay out-of-pocket for doula services, some of our lucky Charlotte families have employers that offer a fantastic benefit called Carrot Fertility. This can help cover the costs of postpartum doula care.

For growing families, benefits like Carrot can make a meaningful difference during a season that’s joyful, emotional, and—let’s be honest—exhausting. Navigating new parenthood is hard enough without worrying about how to afford the support you deserve. That’s why it’s so encouraging to see more employers recognizing just how essential postpartum care is.

If your workplace offers Carrot Fertility, it could open the door to receiving high-quality doula support without taking on the full financial burden.

So, What Exactly Is Carrot Fertility?

Carrot is an amazing benefit some employers offer that provides both informational and financial support for growing families. This benefit often includes reimbursement for postpartum care, meaning you can get financial help for the services of a day or night postpartum doula. Each Carrot plan is unique, depending on the employer, but they generally offer a lifetime benefit that can be used to cover various postpartum doula services over the course of your career with your employer or an annual benefit that can be used yearly.

At Queen City Doulas, we’ve supported many families to successfully use this benefit for their postpartum care. It’s a wonderful way to get the support you need during those crucial weeks after your baby arrives.

How Does Carrot Fertility Reimbursement For Postpartum Doula Care Work?

Each plan varies depending on your employer, but most plans provide reimbursement for both overnight and daytime care. Usually, there’s a designated number of hours that can be used within 5-6 weeks after birth. Many of our families choose to utilize this benefit for 5-7 days a week for 5 weeks.

We totally understand that navigating the reimbursement process might feel intimidating at first, especially in the postpartum haze, but it’s much simpler than it sounds, especially with a little guidance.

Carrot typically requires a few basic things: proof of payment, a signed attestation that you worked with a doula, and possibly some documentation outlining the care provided. This is the part where I tell you the good news: that’s where our team at Queen City Doulas comes in. We’re familiar with what Carrot needs and can provide everything promptly and clearly, so you don’t have to stress about chasing down paperwork while you’re still adjusting to life with a newborn.

Some parents choose to front-load their care with overnight support in the earliest weeks, which are usually the most exhausting weeks postpartum. Others spread their hours out with a few daytime visits each week just so they can catch a few breaks, get some rest in, and get hands-on guidance with newborn care. However you choose to use it, the benefit is designed to be flexible and family-centered.

We’ve worked with many families across a wide range of employer plans and can help you strategize the best way to use your hours, both in terms of support and reimbursement.

What Our Clients Are Saying About Carrot:

We’ve had many clients who’ve loved using this benefit. Here’s what some of them have shared about their experience using Carrot for postpartum doula support:

  • “It was so easy! I paid for my care upfront, submitted my invoices for reimbursement along with an attestation that I was working with a doula, and they reimbursed me for everything.”
  • “I got reimbursed for the services, but it did require some paperwork and a bit of back and forth. Kaitlyn was a lifesaver, always ready with follow-up documentation, and in the end, everything went through. It’s a fantastic benefit.”
  • “I chose to work with Queen City Doulas after hearing from a previous client who used Carrot for postpartum care. The paperwork was a bit of a hassle, but it was totally worth it. I didn’t have a doula the first time around, and having one this time made things so much smoother. If you have this benefit, I HIGHLY recommend using it for postpartum services!”

Their stories reflect just how impactful this benefit can be, and how much smoother the process feels with the right guidance. You know how the saying goes: “A little support can go a long way”!

What Types of Doula Support Are Typically Covered by Carrot Fertility?

Most Carrot plans that include doula benefits will cover a range of postpartum services, depending on your specific employer’s setup. In general, the following types of support are commonly reimbursed:

  • Overnight Care: Many families choose overnight doula support to help with newborn care while they sleep. This can include support with diapering, soothing, feeding assistance, and keeping a log of the baby’s needs overnight.
  • Daytime Support: During the day, postpartum doulas provide hands-on help with infant care, guidance on feeding, and emotional support for new parents adjusting to life with a newborn.
  • Educational Support: Doulas often share valuable insights on topics like infant sleep, feeding, soothing techniques, and how to read baby’s cues—all of which are typically included in reimbursable care.
  • Household Help: While not all plans cover this specifically, some doulas also assist with light household tasks like baby laundry or tidying up baby-related items as part of their support, especially when it contributes to the well-being of the postpartum parent.

If you’re unsure whether a specific type of care is covered, we’re happy to review your plan details and help clarify what’s included. Every plan is a little different, but we’ve seen Carrot cover a wide variety of doula services, and we’re here to help you make the most of it.
