Q: What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?

A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support, but does not perform clinical tasks like checking dilation or delivering babies. A midwife is a medical professional focused on the health of parent and baby. Doulas work with your provider, not as a replacement.

Q: What does the doula do during labor?

Your doula provides physical comfort (like massage, breathing cues, and position changes), emotional reassurance, and helps you stay informed. We’re right there by your side the whole time, guiding, encouraging, and holding space for you.

Q: Will a doula replace my partner?

Not at all! Doulas and partners work as a team. Your doula supports both of you, coaching your partner, offering suggestions, and helping them feel more confident in their role.

Q: Are doulas available for hospital, home, or birth center births?

Yes! We support all birth environments. Whether you’re birthing in a hospital, a birth center, or at home, your doula will meet you there and adapt to the setting.

Q: What if my birth plan changes?

Birth is unpredictable, and that’s totally okay. Your doula is trained to stay calm and flexible. We support you emotionally, no matter what changes arise, and we help you adapt with clarity and confidence.

Q: When should I book a doula?

We recommend booking as soon as possible, but we often accommodate later bookings too. Reach out early to ensure availability and get the full benefit of prenatal support.

Q: Will my doula speak to doctors or nurses for me?

No, doulas don’t speak for clients or make decisions. We help you find your voice, remind you of your birth plan, and support you in asking the right questions. You and your partner remain in charge.

What is a Labor and Birth Doula?

A labor and birth doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and shortly after birth.

Unlike doctors or midwives, doulas are not medical providers. We don’t perform exams or make medical decisions. Instead, we focus entirely on your comfort, confidence, and experience.

We help you prepare for labor, support you through it, and empower you to advocate for yourself every step of the way.

What's included in our labor & birth doula services?

Prenatal Visits

2-3 SESSIONS | 1-2 HOURS EACH

These visits begin around 32 weeks and are completely customized.

The hours not used for your prenatal visits can be used to schedule postpartum visits with your doula.

These include (but aren’t limited to):

Discussing your doula’s role and your expectations of your doula at birth
Creating or reviewing your birth plan
Exploring pain medication preferences and pain coping strategies
Understanding the stages of labor
Practicing decision-making and communication for when/if interventions are suggested
Preparing for postpartum recovery and creating a postpartum plan
Involving and preparing your partner
Discussing any fears, expectations, or questions about the birthing process (this can include role-playing advocating during labor)
Talking about the kinds of pictures you want your doula to take (type, amount, etc.)

Continuous Labor & Birth Support

Our time is not limited.

Once active labor begins, your doula joins you and stays until your baby is born and even for a while after, depending on your needs.

Many births last 8 to 24 hours, and we’re with you for it all.

We offer the following, but don’t limit our services to these:

Emotional support, coaching, and contraction comfort techniques
Position suggestions, massage, and breathing strategies
Birth plan advocacy and guidance (helping you make informed decisions about the medical management of your labor and birth)
Providing breaks, support, and encouragement for your partner in supporting you
Photography or communication with family (if desired)
Providing support for whatever you and your partner need during L&D beyond medical needs (can be anything from food to a cool washcloth to help through difficult decisions)
Helping to settle the room after birth and arrange for food
Support with early breastfeeding and postpartum transition

* During labor, your doula may take short breaks during rest periods (or as needed) to gain energy and continue supporting you as long as you’re stable.

Postpartum Visits

Up to 6 Hours Combined with Prenatal

After birth, we continue supporting you with follow-up visits as needed.

These typically begin 1-2 days after birth, with subsequent visits after the first one.

Postpartum visits can include (but are NOT limited to):

Birth processing and emotional recovery
Newborn care support
Lactation support, guidance, and consultations
Emotional check-ins and referrals if needed
Providing resources for any challenges you may experience
Discussing your timeline and what to expect next

UNLIMITED TEXT, CALL, AND EMAIL SUPPORT

We’re here for you anytime, whether you need a quick question answered or emotional support. During your on-call period, we respond within two hours.

ON-CALL SUPPORT STARTING 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR DUE DATE
From 38 weeks onward, your doula is officially on-call, ready to join you within two hours of your request (often sooner). If you typically go into labor earlier, we can adjust the on-call start date. Our on-call support ends once your baby is born.

DOULA COST & PACKAGES

Our labor doula packages range from $1,000 to $2,600 depending on the doula you choose. A 20% deposit secures your doula, and the balance is due four weeks before your estimated due date.
