Finding Work/Life Balance with Working Moms Movement
If you think work/life balance is unattainable, you’re wrong. Here’s how it’s achievable…
There are a lot of opinions on whether work/life balance is actually achievable, and I believe that IF you build a “life management system”, it is 100% possible. …and I’m walking proof it works.
Work/life balance sounds amazing in theory—spending just the right amount of time crushing it at work while enjoying a fulfilling personal life. In reality, most of us are barely surviving, juggling deadlines, family demands, and self-care (if you even remember what that is).
But what if the problem isn’t you or your endless to-do list? What if the issue is how you’re trying to achieve balance?
Here’s the thing: work/life balance isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing things differently. And this is exactly what I work with the moms on inside The Life Management System – my signature coaching program and podcast.

1. STOP TREATING BALANCE LIKE IT’S 50/50
Work/life balance doesn’t mean everything gets equal time. Balance means giving the right amount of energy to what matters most right now. Some weeks, work might get more of your focus. Other times, you’ll need to lean into family, personal projects, or rest.
The key is to be flexible and prioritize instead of trying to force every part of your life into a perfect split. Life isn’t a scale; it’s a constantly shifting dance.
2. REDESIGN YOUR WORKFLOW
If your work dominates your life, change how you work:
- Use “batch processing” to efficiently and effectively tackle similar tasks at once.
- Set boundaries with your colleagues by negotiating the scope of your commitments.
- Delegate more. Yes, even if you think you’re the only one who can do it “right.” Train yourself to get more comfortable relinquishing control.
- Create routines to ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and to reduce your mental load and decision fatigue.
By more effectively using your time, you create breathing room.
3. QUIT “BALANCING” AND START SIMPLIFYING
The simplest way to achieve balance is by having less to balance. If you’re constantly spinning 12 plates, maybe it’s time to let a few hit the floor.
Ask yourself:
- What do I value? How can I channel more of my energy to what I prioritize?
- What commitments or tasks can I eliminate entirely?
- What can I outsource?
- What do I keep saying “yes” to that no longer aligns with my goals?
- What am I doing simply because of inertia and legacy routines or commitments?
Simplification isn’t failure—it’s a strategy.
4. LET WORK AND LIFE PLAY TOGETHER
Work and life don’t have to be at odds. In fact, for many successful people they flow together:
- Take work calls during a walk.
- Invest in an inexpensive portable monitor to maximize productivity on the go.
- Schedule social time with friends during lunch when you have childcare.
- Don’t put up hard boarders with work apps on your phone, like chat or email functions. Accessibility means flexibility.
By blending the two when possible, you’ll reduce the tension of trying to keep them separate.
5. QUESTION THE STATUS QUO
This might be the hardest one: challenge what you’ve been told about work/life balance.
- Do you really need to be available 24/7 for your job?
- Is “hustling harder” actually the answer to your career goals, or are you being taken advantage of? When was the last time you negotiated your workload with your boss?
- What would happen if you unapologetically prioritized yourself for once?
Doing something different often means stepping away from societal expectations and creating a version of balance that works for you.
6. CELEBRATE THE SEASONS
Sometimes, balance isn’t about the day-to-day grind; it’s about the big picture. Life has seasons:
- Some seasons are for career growth.
- Some are for family, health, or personal projects.
- And some are for simply surviving and binge-watching Netflix.
Stop comparing your current season to someone else’s highlight reel. Honor where you are and adjust your expectations accordingly.
7. REMEMBER THAT BALANCE IS A PRACTICE, NOT A GOAL
The truth is, you’ll never achieve balance and be done with it. Balance is something you practice daily, weekly, and yearly. Some days you’ll nail it. Other days will feel like a disaster.
What matters is that you’re willing to keep adjusting, trying new approaches, and letting go of what doesn’t work.
READY TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT?
If the traditional approach to work/life balance hasn’t worked for you, maybe it’s time to toss it out the window and forge your own path. The magic doesn’t happen when you do more—it happens when you do things differently.
